Troubleshooting • Re: Raspberry Pi 5 USB issues

I'm also having problems with USB on RPi5. Now it's not quite the same problem as the thread creator, but lately some USB sticks don't work anymore and crash the machine. They have worked before. I have the real power adapter from RPi5. 5V/5A. The USB sticks that crash are Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB and Samsung bar plus 128GB.

I have tried to rewrite the SD card and also tested with several SD cards. Also another RPi5 with the same problem. Now I'm testing Ubuntu 23.10. There they work as they should. So something is wrong with any update that has come out lately. I have the latest default EEPROM that came out on 2024-02-16 if it is of any use.

Now I'm sorry if the post looks a bit weird since English is not my natural language.
have you set

usb_max_current_enable=1

in config.txt?

I wouldn't have thought that USB sticks would be consuming much power; but still, worth a try. I have used the same sticks on my 5, without any issues.

BTW...Your English is fine! Much better than my Swedish. ;)
Haha!

Do you have to do that when you have a 5V/5A power adapter? For me, it has worked before. Same USB stick. The last few months they've been messing up.

I tested a brand new SD card today and updated everything. Insert the USB stick and the Raspberry Pi froze when it tried to mount the USB stick. On Ubuntu 23.10 everything works. Also tested it today. No problem there.
I don't know for sure whether it's needed, but I found several threads that seem to suggest the default is off..I have set it on.

It's strange that it's only just started playing up...what are you using the sticks for...are they under heavy write loads?
